LAX LAKE RESORT and CAMPGROUND
is a "ma and pa" resort that has been in operation for 88 years by only two families since its opening in 1928. Opened by John Waxlax, whose father settled and laid claim to the area in 1894, it was purchased by the Rudloff family in 1973. Three of the original cabins remain and date from early to mid 1930s. Over the years, the resort has had many additions, including, until the 1980s, a miniture golf course. In 1979 we moved buildings from what was the old Candlelight Motel by Split Rock when the land was made into a state refuge. The motel unit later took a facelift to become what is now our "duplex" unit. Since its beginning, however, the resort has been a retreat offering both camping and lodging.
The resort is not a fancy place. You may not find great cell phone service. There are no tvs in the rooms. We often joke that it is not a place to watch reality TV, but to live reality. Hey, you're supposed to be on vacation. We are a traditional resort that is a place to create memories. Maybe it's the first fish caught or that chipmunk who ate your chips. Maybe it's that breath taking waterfall that you hiked to and the stories told about it around your campfire. We are family operated by three generations who pool and trade thier time because we just can't imagine not having the opportunity to share our place with all the people who want take their time and enjoy the beauty around us. Whether you use our place as a central location for your vacation outings, or you spend your entire time with us, we invite you to our little resort on the lake.
FURTHER OFFICE AMMENITIES
We have a little store of souviniers, cards, supplies, bait, and groceries of basic camp foods. Our selection of clothing can outfit you in Lax Lake style. The large ice cream cone on our building invites all to our most popular tradition...hard-scooped ICE CREAM featuring many assorted flavors. Oh, stop it. Already my mouth is watering for a Moose Tracks Waffle Cone!
